Disco Ball Theory

Growing up, I tried to be who I thought my parents wanted me to be.  I blended in with my friends, adapting my personality because I didn’t want to be alone.  I was actually quite popular.  I wasn’t alone.  But I was lonely because no one knew who I was, not even me.  Years later, and after years of therapy and spiritual exploration, my sister said to me, "I like you more now that you like yourself more."  Since that time, I have come to like myself even more because I am no longer looking at myself as a human being trying fit into the world.  I see myself as a spiritual being trying to discover, and express my Self.

We all go through periods in life where we wear masks to make it through situations and life.  The mask of father, mother, child, sister, brother, friend, employee or employer are all masks of who we think we should be.  They are the personae we have adopted in life or in a particular situation.   They are the portrayal of what we think are the acceptable aspects of self.  Like actors in a play, they are not who or what we really are.  We are spiritual beings.  We are fragments of the reflection of the Creative.  Imagine if you will, the light coming off of one facet of a disco ball.  That’s you.  The disco ball is Spirit, Pure Being.  You are a facet of Pure Being and expression of the Infinite.

As you go about your day, think of yourself as a facet of a disco ball shinning in the world.  Wherever you go, shine your light.  Whatever you do, shine your light.  Remember.  The light that you are has a Source that is shining through you and it is Love, Peace, Joy and everything good.  You are that light for the world.
